In this assignment, I had to design an illustration in the style of an assigned Illustrator, James Heimer, to pair with an assigned article, 'The good tourist: can we learn to travel without absolutely infuriating the locals?' by Zoe Miller. For this project, I initially struggled to analyze my article abstractly, but after more research, I came up with some visual metaphors that could reflect the message of over-tourism explained in the reading. The visual I ended up moving forward with was one of a large tourist shadow covering the globe, this demonstrated the large reach of tourism and how they leave a lasting imprint on the places they go. The illustrator I was supposed to emulate utilizes a very playful and simple style, which proved difficult for me to emulate at first, but after I continued to look at his designs, I eventually grew comfortable with his style.
